Overview

A climate-focused nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. had an extraordinary amount of state-level climate policy data trapped in spreadsheets. Each tab held valuable insights, but the structure was fragile—prone to human error and nearly impossible to maintain or analyze at scale. What should have been a living, evolving resource was instead static, complex, and inaccessible to the very people who needed it most.

When I was brought in, my goal wasn't just to clean up the data—it was to liberate it. I wanted to turn an internal reference document into an interactive experience that could drive state engagement, spark collaboration, and make policy progress visible. To me, each data point represented a story: communities adapting to environmental shifts, local leaders crafting solutions, and states pushing forward climate action. My work was about connecting those stories into something bigger—a shared, living narrative of progress.

What I Did

Working from design specifications, I architected and engineered the complete technical solution—from database architecture and data pipelines to frontend components and API integrations. Using a modern stack built on Django, Next.js, and Azure, I created a system that automated data ingestion, standardized entries across states, and powered an intuitive dashboard for exploring trends and outcomes.

I built every component, designed the data architecture, and structured both the frontend and backend systems to bring the platform to life. Beyond implementing the technical infrastructure, I focused on translating raw data into meaningful, visual narratives. The result was a platform that didn't just present information; it invited engagement. State partners could explore their own progress, compare efforts across the country, and identify areas for collaboration—all within a system built for performance and scalability.

This project was more than a technical build—it was about transforming how data can inform and inspire public good. I engineered the complete infrastructure that turned disconnected spreadsheets into a tool for collective action and environmental leadership.
